first_imgShreyas Iyer was a disappointed captain after Delhi Daredevils (DD) let slip a good opportunity to stay alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a 7-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday.SRH chased down a target of 164 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad and returned to the top of the points table with 14 points from nine matches.DD had got an excellent start when they were 95/1 after 10 overs but could manage only 68 runs in the next 10 overs to finish at 163/5.(MATCH REPORT | HIGHLIGHTS | PHOTOS)Even in the second innings, DD were on top till the 19th over when Yusuf Pathan smacked Trent Boult for 10 runs in the first three deliveries to snatch the match.”Very disappointing to be honest. At certain point we were really in the game, on top but the momentum changed completely,” Iyer said after the match. The wicket in Hyderabad was slow and Iyer believed that they had a fair total on board. He said he was banking on seamer Avesh Khan but it did not prove to be his day.”It was a really good total to get on the board, even though we got a good start, we didn’t capitalize later on, but 10 runs extra would have been nice. It was really hard surface and I knew it wasn’t going to turn, I was banking on my seamer Avesh Khan but he didn’t turn up that great,” Iyer added.ALSO READ: IPL 2018: Kane Williamson hails team performance after SRH beat DelhiadvertisementDD went with just one spinner in the playing XI while they had five pacers, including all-rounder Vijay Shankar, in the unit on Saturday. Iyer thought that was a perfect decision because the ball was not turning a lot but praised Amit Mishra for his crucial wickets.”It was the perfect decision (to play only one spinner) on this wicket with the ball not turning that much, Mishra bowled really well and got two crucial wickets for us. It was a good chase from them.”DD had another terrible day in terms of fielding. Glenn Maxwell dropped Alex Hales in the second over while Vijay Shankar failed to hold on to Pathan’s catch when he had not scored a single run. The two drops cost DD big time as Hales went on to score 45 while Pathan’s smashed a 12-ball 27 to guide SRH home.”Catches win matches and we have been practicing really hard on our fielding, but when the nerves are really high, it happens and is part of the game; can’t really complain now.”Iyer praised SRH’s chase and said the only positive DD can take out of this match is that they “didn’t give up till the end.””We didn’t give up till the end. They had a good start and they have a good batting line-up, are on top of the table and they backed themselves to chase this down,” Iyer concluded.Iyer himself scored 44 off 36 deliveries and his innings along with Prithvi Shaw’s 36-ball 65 propelled DD to the defendable total.last_img
