New Delhi: Interrogation of the Rohit (accused) who was arrested for creating a fake Government website revealed that he had created another forged website in the name of the shopping website. Police identified the accused as Rohit. He is a B. Com. Graduate and is aspiring to become a Chartered Accountant. Deputy Commissioner of Police (CyPAD) said that the accused figured out that he could draw a lot of internet traffic using the shopping brand name in which products are offered at throwaway prices by e-commerce giants. “He, thus, created a website using the brand name Amazon which also looked very similar to the original website and induced people to sign up using their personal data, which also he intended to capture for illegal monetary gains in the future,” said DCP CyPAD. Also Read – Bangla Sahib Gurudwara bans use of all types of plastic items The accused earlier arrested by CyPAD in the month of June 2019 itself for creating and running a fake Government website in the name of “free laptop” and “free solar panels”. Police said CyPAD received a complaint from online shopping company that someone had created and hosted a website by the domain to misguide people and dupe the general public by using company brand name and by developing a website which appeared similar to Amazon’s Website. Data was being collected in the name of registration on this website. The Cyber Crime Unit registered a criminal case under applicable sections of IT Act in order to prevent this malicious and fake con-job from spreading its net wider. The team of CyPAD led by ACP Aditya Gautam made the arrest.
